Ava is here!!

That's right! Our precious baby girl was born Dec. 5,2009 at 3:57 pm! I was scheduled to be induced on Monday Dec. 7th but Ava had other plans! She wanted to be born on Saturday apparently while my regular doctor was out of town. Ok so here's the story....

At our last doctor visit on Wednesday Dec. 2nd my doctor, Dr. Friendman, scheduled our induction for the following Monday, the 7th. We had our normal visit of the non stress test and ultrasound. They measured Ava on the ultrasound and said it looked like she was approximately 6lbs 11 oz. Nice size baby, not too big not too small. Well because Dr. Friendman was going to be out of town that weekend he asked if we would mind to meet with the on-call doctor for that weekend so that just in case I was to go into labor we would be familiar with the doctor. We said of course we'd like to meet him. Dr. Shoutko was new to the hospital and practice but not a brand new doctor. We met him and immediately had a great feeling about him. He has a great bedside manner and is a humble Christian man. Dr. Shoutko asked us a few questions and then checked to see if I had dilated any more and I had. He said I was between 3 & 4 cm and that was a good starting point for induction. So we left the doctor's office prepared to come back to the hospital on Monday for our planned induction. Little did we know that our plans would go all to pieces.

So for the next couple of days we made plans and got things ready for the arrival of Miss Ava for Dec 7th. Jason, Addison and I went to West Town Mall Thursday night to get a couple of Christmas gifts and really enjoyed our time there. We just walked around in no big hurry and picked up a few things. I enjoyed the walk and hoped that it would help me dilate so that the induction wouldn't take as long as it did with Addison (16 hours of labor with her from time of induction). While we were walking I did have a contraction that made me stop in my tracks and say "ow that kinda hurt". Which up until that point my contractions had only been strong enough to notice and had never stopped me from what I was doing. Well Friday was just a normal day for us and we went about our normal business friday night. I cooked a big supper so that we could have leftovers for lunch the next couple of days and I managed to get Addison's over night bag packed so that I wouldn't have to wait until last minute Sunday night to do that and chance on forgetting something she might need while she was at Grammy's. Ava's bag had already been packed and ready to go but we decided to wait until Saturday to pack mine and Jason's things for the hospital. Friday night wrapped up like any normal night at our house and we all went to bed.

Sometime between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning I was woken up by a contraction. At first I thought I had just moved funny and gotten a side stitch b/c I had done that a few times before. I got up to go potty and then laid back down. Well about 30 mins later another pain hit and this time I knew what it was. The contraction was painful enough to have to breathe through but I didn't wake Jason up yet because I figured it was just a couple sparatic contractions and nothing to really worry about. Well from that point on the contractions got closer and closer and I never was able to go back to sleep. In the 5 o'clock hour I was timing the contractions and they were coming about every 10 minutes. So at about 5 til 6 am. I woke Jason up and said "I think I'm gonna call the doctor because I'm having contractions about every 10 minutes". I don't think I've ever seen Jason wake up so quick LOL! He said "Uh yeah I think that'd be a good idea". So I called the doctor and they said to go on to the hospital and they would check me out to see if I was in labor and if not they would send me home. So here started the phone calls to our moms and some friends and church people and by 630ish we were out the door and on our way to the hospital.

When we arrived at the hospital we went straight to labor and delivery and got set up in their triage room to monitor the baby and my contractions. The pain got worse and worse with every contraction and finally around 8 or so a resident doctor and nurse came to check my cervix and found that I was 6cm dilated and boy were they surprised-and so were Jason and I. So this got the team movin and got me into a room and soon I found relief in my wonderful epidural!

For the next few hours we waited and waited for me to dilate to 10cm. It took a little while longer than expected but around 3:30 pm the nurse checked me and I was ready to push. I started pushing around 3:40 and about 15 minutes later Ava Marie was born weighing 7 pounds and 19 3/4 inches long.

That was the second time I got to experience my child being born and that feeling and experience is like none other. The second time is just as wonderful as the first time! Its one of the most wonderful AMAZING miraculous experiences EVER! How anyone could witness such an amazing event and not see God is beyond me! I will never forget this blessed day! I praise God and thank Him for being with us and giving us another healthy baby girl and for blessing my family so richly!

It's Almost Time

Pregnant Quote Graphics from dolliecrave.com

Dolliecrave.com

My due date is officially in 1 month! How fantastic is that?! We are soooo ready to meet little miss Ava Marie!!
After my doctor's appointment on Thurs. Nov 12, the doctor said she will definitely be born no later that Dec. 12th because of my gestational diabetes. So PRAISE THE LORD we know she will be here in less than 4 weeks! As any pregnant woman knows, the last month is the worst and the longest and you can't wait for the baby to be born. You can't sleep, can't get comfortable, you've got cankles and hideous stretch marks, you go to the bathroom what seems like every 30 minutes and you just feel like people look at you and think " What is Shamu doing waddling around here?"
But anyways at the doctors appointment they measured Ava by ultrasound and she is weighing in at about 5lbs 8oz-which is in the 27th percentile. Small but still healthy. Our doctor is not concerned about her small size one bit. He says that it seems that she has more of my genes than Jason's and is just genetically a smaller baby. As long as she is healthy thats perfectly fine with me! Not having to squeeze out another 8 pound baby is A-OK with me :-)
The doctor also checked to see if I was dilated any and I am dilated 1 cm but still not thinned out at all and baby is still very high. I've not had very many contractions but I am hoping I start getting more so that if I do have to be induced that I can have a pretty good head start and not be in labor for 16 hours again like I was with Addison.
Well as we get updates we will continue to post! Hopefully we will be meeting Ava very soon! Please keep our family in your prayers for a happy and healthy rest of the pregnancy and delivery!

Less than 6 weeks to go!

Saturday marked the 6 week countdown until Ava's due date and that realization really made my stomach tie in knots! I cannot believe that in 6 weeks or less Ava will be here! We are SOOO EXCITED and cannot wait but I still feel like I have a million things to do around the house and such to get ready for her arrival. Hopefully the nesting will kick in real good real soon and I can get the stuff done!

I have been going to the doctor every week for weekly monitoring of Ava to make sure we are both doing good because of the gestational diabetes. Every week we go and they do an ultrasound to check my amniotic fluid and they also do a non stress test (just hooking me up to a fetal heart monitor for 20 minutes to evaluate Ava's heartbeat and to see if I am having any contractions). They measured her a couple of weeks ago and she was almost 4lbs. That was in the 30th percentile for her age but doctor said that was just fine and perfectly healthy. She will get another measurement at around 36 weeks. Her heart rate is looking fantastic according to the heart monitor and the doctor is really pleased at how well we are doing.

I am also going to a nutritionist every week or two so they can keep a good check on my diabetes and blood sugar readings. So far I am just having to take one insulin shot a day at breakfast but its getting harder and harder to control my sugar at random times with just diet. My body is just not doing well with this pregnancy as far as that goes. I go back to the nutritionist Monday and we will see if they up my insulin or just fuss at me for my diet lol. Either way Im fine with it. Less than 6 weeks and this whole diabetes thing will be over with! I am so ready for some REAL food! Like greasy cheeseburgers and fries, brownies and ice cream, and eating anything I want!!! :-)

Also with getting ready for a newborn we are planning Addison's 2nd birthday party and getting ready for Christmas. Addison has decided she wants to have a Yo Gabba Gabba birthday and is getting really excited about it.
We also just had her 2 year pictures made and they turned out AMAZING!!
Click HERE to see them! We were so pleased at how they turned out.

So thats it for now. We are staying extremely busy with baby prep, birthday prep and getting geared up for the holidays! Hope to post again real soon!

4D Ultrasound Pictures of Ava

Our family finally got to see the 4D ultrasound of Miss Ava Marie so now I can post the pictures on the blog. Ava really cooperated and we got some really great pictures and a great DVD.
Today our family came over to watch the DVD and everyone really seemed to enjoy it. It really did give us a glimpse at Ava's personality and to see how beautiful she is!
We are truly truly blessed to have another child to love and adore. I cannot wait to hold my new daughter in my arms!

6 month Doctor Appointment

pregnant

Thursday, August 20th, we had our monthly check up at the OB/GYN. Everything is PERFECT with Ava and myself. This was the first month that they measured my belly and it was actually measuring a week ahead at almost 25 weeks but this is totally normal. With Addison at one visit I may measure a week ahead and go back the next visit and measure right on schedule. Ava's heartbeat is perfect at around 150 bpm. The NP that listened to the heartbeat said miss Ava is a very active little girl and we are gonna have our hands full(she has been since we found out we were pregnant! LOL! *see previous posts!) because every time she would track her down and listen to the heartbeat Ava would move around. It was hilarious!! Ava is a pretty active baby and I love it! Everyone asks if she is more active than Addison was and at this point I think its about the same. Addison was active too.
Speaking of big sister Addison, she got to feel her little sister move the other night and thought it was the neatest thing. Addison just giggled and would say "Again?!" LOL It was so precious!!
We go back in about a month and I will have to do the 1 hour sugar test-YUCK YUCK YUCK!! I am not looking forward to it because with Addison I failed the first sugar test-barely- and then had to go back for the 3 hour test, which turned out just fine. But this appointment is first thing in the morning so HOPEFULLY it will be fine. AND after that appointment in September for my sugar test and regular check up I start going to the doctor EVERY 2 WEEKS!! OH MY GOSH how in the world are we already at that stage in the pregnancy?!! Time has flown by SOOOOO FAST!! We are very excited about meeting Ava face to face and can't wait to see how exciting, crazy, fun, scary, thrilling, and awesome its going to be to have 2 kids in the house!!

23 weeks down 17 to go!

This is me at 23 weeks. Everything is going just great and Ava is very active. She is big enough and kicking hard enough for you to feel on the outside which is very exciting. Jason has got to feel her a few times but usually she quits when he puts his hand on my belly. Typical right? But anyways not a whole lot to tell right now. We go to the doctor on the 20th for our regular monthly check up. Can't wait to hear her heartbeat! Thats my favorite part!

I also wanted to post a picture of me at 25 weeks pregnant with Addison in 2007 to compare.

Its Food Networks Fault

It has become about a nightly ritual for me to turn on The Food Network and watch it as I am getting Addison to sleep. A few nights ago I was watching one of my favorite shows
Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and Guy went to a hot dog place in Connecticut and OH....MY....GOSH!!!! They had THE BEST looking hot dogs I have EVER seen! (Ok so the pregnancy probably had a little bit to do with how good they looked but still...) I was almost drooling over those silly hot dogs I wanted one SOOO BAD! After the show went off and Addison was in bed I told Jason I was driving to Connecticut to get me a hot dog! LOL

Anyways after practically dreaming about the wonderful hot dogs I decided to try to make my own version of the Food Network ones and here is how it turned out:
The wonderful creations have bacon, cheese, mustard, pickles, chili and onions on them. SO YUMMY AND SO VERY MUCH a pregnant girls hot dog! LOL

And either that same night or the next night I got a craving for some No Bake Oatmeal Cookies and they were delish! They were so good that I had to make them again today!
So finally I've had a couple of cravings! This pregnancy has been pretty easy on the cravings and not wanted a whole lot but boy oh boy the hot dogs and cookies sure were GREAT cravings!!

Where'd they go?

So I am in the kitchen fixing Addison some oatmeal this morning and I look down and realize:
I can't see my feet!! LOL

I have to actually lean over my belly to see my feet! How funny is that?!

ITS A GIRL

Baby Icons

It's official! Addison is gonna have a little SISTER!!! The little stinker had her legs crossed for the longest time and the ultrasound tech had to aggravate her to get her to spread her legs but when she did it was obvious there was no "hot dog" there and she is definitely a girl!
Above is a picture of her "hamburger" aka girly parts.

Above is a picture of her foot. She liked to show us her feet.

Above is a picture of her face as if she is looking at us.

I think when the tech said its a girl you probably could have heard a pin drop in the room (which was full-there was Jason and Addison, Sherry aka Grammy(jasons mom), Aunt Steph (jasons sister) and my Mom aka Mamaw Joan). We were all in shock! My mom didnt really have a feeling either way boy or girl but the rest of us were "Sure" it was a boy!
We are all EXTREMELY excited to have another little girl!! Addison will love having a baby sister and this baby has already got the best big sister in the world! We are very thankful that God has chosen this child to be ours and amazed and what He does!

As far as a name goes we didn't have a name picked out before the ultrasound but as we were in the room waiting for the doctor to come in afterwards we discussed names and think we may have chosen one. We aren't 100% settled on it but right now we are considering
Ava Marie.

BTW, the baby is perfectly healthy and measuring right on schedule. The tech said she weighs about 12 ounces right now. She has ten fingers and ten toes and two arms and legs, and a perfect heartbeat. God is so GOOD!!

Myrtle Beach 2009

Well we have been home from the beach for a week now so I figured it was about time to post a little blog about our WONDERFUL vacation. We really could not have asked for a better time at the beach. It was nice and relaxing, just what we needed.
We got there Tuesday night and as soon as we unloaded the van and put our stuff down in the condo we went straight to the beach. We couldn't wait to see what Addison thought of the sand and ocean. She really didn't know what to think at first because it was after 9 pm and pitch dark outside so she couldnt really see anything and that kinda freaked her out.
So after just a few minutes on the beach we decided to head inside and call it a night.

The next day we got up and ate breakfast and then headed out to the beach and pool. The weather was overcast and cloudy all day but that didnt stop us from enjoying the water.
Both the ocean and pool water was pretty cold but we still enjoyed playing outside and in the water. And in the daylight when Addison could actually see what was going on around her she loved playing in the pool and in the sand. The ocean was definitely not her favorite thing but she did play in it some.

Everyday we'd play outside til about lunch time and go in and eat and then it was time for Addy G to take a nap (and mommy- and daddy sometimes too!). Then after nap we would all get showered and dressed and go out to eat and be touristy.

Thursday it rained off and on all day so we all decided to take a lazy day and just hang out inside and watch movies/tv and eat pizza. It was really nice to just hang out and be lazy.

Friday was a great last day of our get away. It was sunny and warm with a nice breeze. It was a nice way to end the week. We really didn't want to come home just yet but sigh, reality was calling us back home.

Anyways to check out all our Myrtle Beach pictures click *HERE*.

We had a fantastic time and can't wait to do it again sometime!!

16 weeks

Shuni Dolls / />

So how in the world has it been 16 weeks already??? Time really has flown by with this pregnancy! We went July 2nd for our monthly check up and everything checked out perfect. The baby's heartrate was in the 140's and I am measuring right on schedule.
A little funny story about the doctors visit--Addison HATES and I mean HATES doctors! She cries and throws a fit every time she sees one! It doesn't have to be her doctor..ANY doctor she despises! So as the nurse practitioner was listening to the baby's heartbeat Addison was crying and as soon as she picked up the heartbeat the baby moved away and she had to go searching for it again. The NP said "Wow this baby already knows to run away from the big sister when she is crying" LOL. So anyways it was just funny to hear the NP say that. Addison did eventually calm down but she clung to her daddy the entire visit. Also some GREAT GREAT news, the NP moved our ultrasound appointment up a week so now we get to find out if we are having a boy or girl on
JULY 23rd!!!!
SUPER SUPER EXCITED about that!

Anyways here is a preggo pick of me. And yeah I know Im big for 16 , almost 17 weeks. LOL

8 Years with the most wonderful man in the world

Today I am celebrating my 8 year wedding anniversary to my best friend! Jason was truly picked out for me by God himself and I thank Him so much. Jason is not only my best friend, but my highschool sweetheart. Something I consider very special.

Jason is there for me in all the good times and in all the bad. He has never been anything but loving and generous towards me and provides and loves his family. Together we have been blessed with a BEAUTIFUL baby girl and another blessing from God due in December. We have a wonderful family and friends and a great church family. What more could we ask for? God has truly been so good to us.

Jason-thank you for all you have done and all you do for me, Addison, #2, your family, friends and church family. You are truly a Godly man with a strong faith and love. I love you so much and can't wait to spend the next 98 years loving you!! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!

Baby surprise update

Baby Icons

Today we went for our monthly check-up on baby surprise and we got to hear the little one's heartbeat. It was so precious! The heartbeat is a healthy and strong 160. While the doctor was listening to the heartbeat the little fella or chica was jumping or kicking and you could hear it on the doppler. This little booger is an active one!

We go back on July 2nd for another regular check-up and then on July 30th we are having our ultrasound to find out if Addison is having a little brother or sister!! We are BEYOND excited and cannot wait! We, of course, will be happy either way if its a boy or girl as long as he or she is healthy. But from the very beginning I've felt like this time we are having a boy but all the dreams I've had I dream its a girl. So we will just have to wait and see. Honestly I will be surprised if its a girl but PERFECTLY happy if we do have another girl. Having a boy would be fun to see how different it is to raise a boy from a girl. Really either way this little one will probably be a holy terror compared to Addison because she has always been the best baby and little girl. Very rarely have any kinds of problems out of miss Addy G. So boy or girl we better watch out I believe!

I can't believe my baby is 18 months old

On May 27, 2009 our sweet baby girl, Addison Grace, turned 18 months old! *sniff sniff* I cannot believe how fast the last 18 months have gone by! I can remember just like it was yesterday finding out I was pregnant with her, then seeing her on the ultrasound for the first time, and the day she was born. Its just so scary how fast the time has gone!

Addison has brought so much joy and happiness to our lives that I cannot remember what life was like without her and what we did with ourselves before she came along. She has been a wonderful blessing from the start and I just fall more and more in love with her every day! I thank God so much for letting me be HER mommy! I know He picked her out just for us and we're so blessed!

Ok before I start blubbering all over the keyboard Im gonna post some pics I took of her.

Naptime without the paci

Well the first nap without the paci went better than I expected. Addison got in my lap and I gave her her night night and said ok let's go night night. And she did ask for her paci but I told her we threw it away because she's a big girl now and she cried and whined for about 5 minutes. (Breaking my pregnant hormonal heart too easily lol) Then I decided to let her watch cartoons while she laid on me, thinking she would fall asleep watching them. Nope..didn't happen. So after the cartoon went off I turned the tv all the way down and cuddled her up to me and sang to her and patted her bottom Addison did cry a little bit, maybe 30 seconds, and then she was out in about 3 minutes. So over all it took about 30 minutes to get her to go to sleep, which I thought was pretty good considering that was the first time she was going to sleep without her paci. Normally her naps are around 2 hrs but today was just barely an hour and a half-still good! So lets hope that tonight is a good night but I am prepared for the worst (mentally) just in case!

Bye Bye Paci

As Addison is so quickly approaching the 18 month mark, I decided it was time to say goodbye to her beloved friend, the paci. From day 1 she has loved her paci and would only take a certain kind, of course it was the kind that was hardest to find in stores! But the paci and her blankie (which she calls her "night night") have gone hand in hand since she was about 2 or 3 months old. So parting with such a dear "friend" was probably not going to be easy. All week I prepped her by saying "Ok on Friday we are gonna throw paci away!" And each day I'd say "ok today is monday or tuesday and then what are we gonna do friday? Throw the paci away". The reason I chose Friday was because the Farmer's Almanac listed it as one of the days this month best to ween a child. And Ive had several people tell me that it works so I figured why not?! Won't hurt to try! So last night I told Addison that in the morning we would throw the paci away and we'd go buy her a toy for being such a big girl and that really seemed to excite her! This morning when she woke up I said "Today's Friday so that means we are throwing paci away." And her response was " Toy?!" So my little girl is so smart! So anyways here is the video of Addison throwing a baggie of her paci's in the garbage and some pictures of her rewards for being such a Big Girl!!

Addison saying she's Big Girl!

Addison playing with her Handy Manny toolbox. This is the toy she picked out.

And she also got a new Backyardigans DVD. She LOVES them!!

And as a special lunch treat we ate pizza, which is her absolute FAVORITE! She would eat pizza all day everyday if we would let her!

So now its almost 2 pm and time for her nap. This will be a true test to see how she will do without paci!! I'll let ya know!

Our little peanut

Today we went to the doctor and got our first glimpse of our surprise baby! He or she is a very active little booger and danced and wiggled during the entire ultrasound and the tech said "you've got a dancin baby!" So so cute! Here's a pic!

The baby is measuring right on track at 8 weeks 5 days and thus putting my due date December 12th. And the heartbeat is in the 170's. So very strong heartbeat and active baby-we are so thankful and blessed! Addison got to see the baby with us and she didn't really know what to think but she did look at it and say "Baby!" . Seeing this little one's heartbeat for the first time was just as exciting as seeing Addison's for the very first time. And today it became even more real that we are having another baby and what a miracle and blessing this truly is. I am thankful beyond words for what the Lord has done and what He is going to do! What an awesome God we serve!

This is Big Sister Addison holding the pics of her little brother or sister!

8 week update

And as for the 8 week update-im still feeling sick some but I have noticed it is not as much as last week. So HOPEFULLY, fingers crossed, it will soon pass and I can REALLY enjoy being pregnant!

I usually get sick around 11 or so and stay that way til about 4ish and then its just hit or miss after that. I am tired a lot and it seems like im doing good to make it til 10:30 pm before I pass out! Jason has even found me asleep on the couch or in the recliner a time or two and had to tell me to go to bed! LOL But anyways that's this weeks update! I feel tired a lot but not as much as I did with Addison, yet... But I know that all this will be worth it in the end so I am trying not to complain too much. And as far as cravings or food aversions go Im not really having any. I seem to be on a hamburger kick but I wouldnt say I am really craving them.

Easter Egg Hunt

Saturday was our church's Easter egg hunt and it was a lot of fun. We had good food and fellowship. I think the adults had as much fun as the kids!

Darlene leading the kids in songs while the men hid the easter eggs.

Addison watching Darlene lead songs.

Our little kids at church-ages 2 and under.

Addison gettin her basket and ready to hunt some eggs!

Here is Addison with the ONLY egg we found. I even had to pick it up and put it in her basket. She was too busy being nosy and watching everyone else LOL! But Addison enjoyed just being outside and walking around and watching all the other kids so as long as she was happy it was fine! She did win a prize for least amount of eggs found!

The Easter Bunny visited Addison!

Addison checkin out her basket.

Bless her heart it was early for her!

She seemed to like what the easter bunny left her!

Overall we had a fantastic Easter weekend! I will post pics of Addison in her cute cute cute easter dress soon!
